The Cubicle Rat aka The Office Alien doesn’t necessarily have to work in a cubicle, and there is an infinite number of places where you can find them. Also, not all co-workers are strange, weird, pesky or irksome. But if you’re reading this, you probably smell a rat!

Most of the time, being the rational free-thinking, accepting, flexible humans that we are, we give people the benefit of the doubt before we start to have critical thoughts about them. But when their chronically shit-head behavior starts to affect your sanity, something has to be done before you go postal on them.

They may come from different backgrounds or have an entirely different mentality that doesn’t always fit into the culture of your workplace. Sometimes, these freakos think that they're immune to company policy or the accepted set of office standards and act entirely unprofessionally.

You may truly like what you do, and you may genuinely enjoy interacting with your customers, but when it comes to your co-worker, you’d rather trim your fingernails with the electric pencil sharpener with a blindfold on.

Unfortunately, we can’t interview every person in our future workplace before we agree to the terms of a work contract. Nevertheless, there are things you can do to offset their messed up behavior to your advantage.

The idea is to get them to believe you totally have their back so they will, in turn, go to great extents to do things for you.

Just remember, it doesn’t matter if they're immature idiots, there are always things you can do to influence them so that you are not held back by them.
